Imbolc - 2009

January 31st and Feb 1st

Imbolc (a.k.a. Candlemas, Brigid’s Day or Groundhog’s Day), is the celebration of the return of spring.  Although we, in the North-East, are just starting to feel the icy shackles of winter being placed upon us this year, at Imbolc we will already be seeing the stirrings of new life and the spring season. The Celtic Goddess Brigit or Brigid (pronounced "Breed"), is honored on this day. She brings fertility and rebirth in the upcoming spring.  Brigid is the Goddess of healing, inspiration, poetry and smith-craft.

A Knot tradition is to plant the ‘seeds’ of upcoming resolutions and desires.  Throughout the year, we will revisit the seeds that we plant on this day, to watch them grow and help them along by directing our attention to them.  Imbolc is a good time to; heal old wounds, prepare yourself for the emerging new year, and allow yourself to be inspired and to be creative.
